SSI with 5 partners established CCUS Consortium aiming to Net Zero Target

Sahaviriya Steel Industries PLC or SSI represented by Mr. Kittisak Mapanao, Chief Technology Officer (1st from left) participated in the announcement on an establishment of “CCUS Consortium” together with the management of the member organizations, such as PTT PLC (PTT), PTT Exploration and Production PLC (PTTEP), Thai Oil PLC (Thai Oil), SCG Cement PLC (SCG Cement), Bangkok Industrial Gas PLC (BIG), PTT Global Chemical PLC (PTTGC), Global Power Synergy PLC (GPSC) including alliances from education sector, such as, Chulalongkorn University, during the “Future Energy Asia 2022” held on 20 July 2022 at BITEC (Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center). This announcement has been honorably witnessed by Mrs. Premrutai Vinaiphat, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy including the representatives from the public sectors and the public organizations, such as the Energy Policy and Planning Office, Ministry of Energy, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) (TGO).

The consortium on development of technology for carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS Consortium) has been jointly established by the Bio-Circular-Green economy Technology & Engineering Center (BCGeTEC), Chulalongkorn University and 5 members in main industrial groups, consisting of oil and gas, cement, steel, chemical and power industrial groups. Objectives are to encourage all sectors to aware of the problems and solution of climate change from carbon dioxide through arrangement of activities as well as to drive and develop CCUS technology to have direction in conformity with technology, society, economic and laws of Thailand including to drive the organizations and Thailand to achieve the target of Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero.
