SSI Joins 11 Pioneering Organizations and TGO to Test GHG Reporting Platform

Mr. Thanongsak Khaengkhan, Vice President and Head of Manufacturing Divisionn of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited (SSI), participated in the “Commitment Towards Net Zero (Phase 2)” declaration ceremony. SSI was selected by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), or TGO, as one of 12 pioneering companies to join this initiative.
This project aims to expand and test a platform for reporting greenhouse gas emissions based on the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) standard. The purpose is to gather insights and recommendations to further enhance the platform’s efficiency in alignment with Thailand’s long-term national goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
SSI’s primary strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions include:

  1. Developing production technology – Improving the hot rolling process for maximum energy efficiency.
  2. Increasing clean and renewable energy use – Reducing reliance on fossil fuels by increasing the use of solar energy and biomass in operations.
  3. Enhancing raw material efficiency – Minimizing waste during production and reusing or repurposing byproducts into new products.
  4. Carbon offset initiatives – Investing in carbon sequestration projects, such as reforestation, to offset unavoidable emissions.
  5. Participating in carbon credit trading – Supporting low-carbon industries and promoting sustainable development.
“This project is a challenging milestone for SSI, but achieving it requires collaboration from all—executives, employees, partners, customers, and all relevant parties. It’s not just a business goal, but a mission of responsibility. Strong collaboration is key to driving change, aiming to build a sustainable industry that also protects the environment,” said Mr. Thanongsak.
