Sahaviriya Steel Industries UK Limited (SSI UK), a subsidiary of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited (SSI), has now produced 5 million tonnes of steel slabs since its steelmaking facility at Teesside was restarted in April 2012. The milestone was reached late on Saturday 22nd February. Earlier in the month another milestone was reached when the 50th shipment of steel slabs bound for SSI in Thailand, left Teesport . The total tonnage despatched to Thailand to date is in excess of 3.2million tonnes. Total exports from SSI UK in 2012 were valued at $1.5billion and are expected to approach $2billion this year.
